"Snowmagddeon" in the Mid- Atlantic and just customary, plain, old snow in Anchorage!

Sabbath morning

The Mid- Atlantic region woke up to a blanketing, record making, 24 inches of snow, with President Obama coining the  word "snowmagddeon", to describe it. Here in Anchorage Alaska, at 9am it is a balmy 23 degrees with a light steady snow coming down. At the end of the day 4- 6 inches is expected to fall depending on where one is. You just have to love the snow here in the beautiful state of Alaska. It is extremely white, soft, and powdery. So soft that you cannot make a snow man from it. It is very pretty to look at and easy to shovel or clean off one's car.  The temperature here for the most part this year, did not get as cold as the Lower 48. That is one of the irony of coming to AK, everyone including myself at first thinks that AK is a freezer but within this one state there are 6 different climate regions. And so on a sabbath morning getting ready to leave for Church,  it is not a huge hassle to clean up the car and at the same time take in the beauty of nature.

Moose sighting
The moose would not be out done and so as I swung open my gates there it was, a big pile of golden, moose nuggets. Ah-ah. The moose had either pass through early this morning or last night. These creatures tend not to fear man or car and so have no quams about showing up as they please. Talking about that, as I turned around to get in my now cleaned car, to head off to church, there they were, three moose walking down the street and munching on the leaves from the birch trees. Sure enough out of no where cameras started flashing and I certainly was not going to be left out!

The sermon- Titled "I love you" given by elder Ed, was so deep. Here we were introduced or revisted for some, the three types of love:
Eros love: which is sensual, selfish, superficial and self-centered, one that looks out for the id. It is often associated with infatuation.
Philos love: which is more along the line of the love that a parent has for a child, siblings for each other, friends. Philos is deeper than eros and as it matures and develops, eros dissipates.
The greatest of all love is the Agape, love, which loves inspite of, unconditionally. The greatest example being Christ dying for us while we were yet sinners, and even after we reect Him over and over again, He still loves us. A beautiful contemporary illustration was given of how the prophet Hosea went after and seek out his prostitute wife Gomer. So when you say I love you, what is it that you are really making reference to?

Mid-afternoon & Sunset

Lunch with the Joseph's, which is always a good vegetarian meal. Goofing around with CC and just a gorgeous sunset!

The Movies
I am always a sap when it comes on to certain movies. Saw three good movies

A wonderful movie based on first love, second chance, forgiveness, God's grace, and restoration of a marriage.

Melissa Gilbert, Brad Johnson, and Liana "Pip" Liberato. Look beyond the false French accent and again a movie that depicts courage, the resiliency of the human spirit and love that breaks down all barriers.

Amanda Bynes and Colin Firth- a girls guest to find and develop a relationship with an aristocratic father who did not know that she even existed.  There were so many undertones including breaking down the  barriers of aristocracy.

3:30am and signing off.
