South Central Alaska - VALDEZ


                                                                             
Location: N.E. section of Prince William Sound
               Surrounded by the Chugach mountains
1970's:  Construction of the Trans- Alaska Oil 
              Pipeline
1989  :  The Exxon Valdez oil spill and cleanup
Population: ~ 4,100
Average annual snowfall 325.6 inches thus making 
              it a reknowned skiing resort
Mileage from Anchorage 302 miles by car

The 1964 good Friday earthquake- almost completely destroyed Valdez.
         Most of what is there now is new since 1964. There were many deaths from the tsunami (Ben Wattum)
