Charlotte, NC Fall 2010

The transition to Charlotte has proven to be more challenging than I thought. I know, I know everywhere after Alaska would not measure up. Termination dusting's, oh I miss that  beautiful sight, but this is not about Alaska. Charlotte is quite the busy city. Driving on I77, I277, and I85 makes one feel like one is on the NASCAR race track. My bad,t his is the home of NASCAR, just was not expecting that kind of driving. Everyone is going at neck breaking speed and there is little or no courtesy on the streets. Yea, you may say I am coming from Alaska and that will skew my perspective but, Parks Highway has 3 lanes and Tudor has two so we are use to highways in Alaska. Anyway, I was told it is the Yankees that left up North to come populate the South, that are responsible for those kind of behaviors. I am slowly adjusting to life in the fast lane.

Downtown Charlotte is very expensive to live; and so my search for a furnished apartment at a reasonable price  something that is comfortable for me, ended in futility. Imagine asking to pay Manhattan price with a salary that is way below NY/NJ rates. Needless to say, I found a small but cute unfurnished apartment 17 miles outside of the city. Had to rent some furniture but in the long run I made out cheaper than having to rent a furnished place.

I find also that Charlotte is a want to be big city with some lacking features. Take for example, showing up at Wali world and Target at 9pm on a Sunday night and they are closed. Wow, even in Alaska Freddie's and Carrs are opened at 10pm in the winter and 24 hours in the summer for Carrs.

So there are some beauty to Charlotte. I get to be close to love ones; the weather is beautiful this time of year; and the place for the most part is clean. Where I now live is very quiet and keeping my fingers crossed as the reviews that I read online tells another story. I meet a nice family here who took me under there wings especially for the first two weeks that I was here.

Anyway, I am looking to further explore Charlotte and its surroundings, especially since this is where I am planning to call home, if I can resist the urge of going back to AK that is.
